What It Is The SES 3.4 AR is the embodiment of the modern disc brake-only road wheelset. Science & Insight In 2016 we launched the SES 4.5 AR, a wheelset ahead of its time. Since then, road riders, frame manufacturers, and tire makers have all caught the high-volume vision which has propelled the one-of-its-kind 4.5 AR to be our most popular wheel in North America where the high-volume all-road movement has gained the most traction. As more bikes are created that can accommodate tire clearances up to 32mm, we saw the need to create a more versatile, climber-friendly SES AR wheelset, and the SES 3.4 AR was born. The SES 7.8 Disc is both aerodynamically and structurally optimized for use with disc brakes. Who It's For Road racers and triathletes on modern disc brake-equipped aero road and triathlon bikes will benefit from the SES 7.8 Disc's reduced drag, light weight, and rim shape optimized for larger-volume road tires. Why We Made It Many modern road bikes are now equipped with disc brakes and the triathlon superbikes of tomorrow will be as well. The elimination of a braking surface opens up the realm of aerodynamic and structural possibilities. When you don't have to engineer a flat braking surface that must manage high temperatures from braking you can reduce the rim's weight, adjust the rim shape for improved aerodynamics, and provide better tubeless performance. Full Details Disc brakes are beginning to appear on the most aerodynamic bikes in the world and the SES 7.8 is ready. While most wheel manufacturers simply repurpose their rim brake-optimized wheel models into disc brake wheels by covering brake tracks with decals and adding disc hubs and more spokes, this leaves substantial amounts of performance on the table. Removing the constraints of a braking surface on the rim allow us to completely rethink the shape of the rim, and more specifically, the brake track area itself. The SES 7.8 Disc features patented SES rim curvature that has been optimized for disc brakes. Additionally, the SES 7.8 Disc carbon fiber clinchers and tubulars are much lighter because the material used for heat management has been eliminated. With no braking surface, the rim can be made more aerodynamically efficient and impact resistant. Finally, the SES 7.8 carbon clincher is tubeless-compatible and can also be run with standard inner tubes and tires. Like all of the current generation SES carbon clinchers and tubulars, the SES 7.8 Disc has been aerodynamically optimized around fast-rolling 25mm tires.

Who it's for Road cyclists who require maximum versatility for riding in mountainous terrain and variable weather conditions. Why we made it Since the introduction of the original SES 3.4, we’ve implemented new design concepts across the SES lineup that result in a faster wheel and improved ride experience. The SES 3.4 features road tubeless compatibility, 25mm tire optimization, molded carbon brake track technology, and optimized SES aero rim shaping to ensure maximum efficiencies for a shallow aero wheel. Equally at home in the mountains as in the valleys, the SES 3.4 is the most versatile Smart ENVE System aero wheel. Like all SES wheel models, the SES 3.4 features dissimilar rim shapes and geometries between the front and back wheels to maximize aerodynamic efficiency and rideability in variable wind and weather conditions. The front rim is 38mm deep and shallower than the rear rim to aid in crosswind stability while rear rim is 42mm deep and therefore improves overall airflow. For riding in mountainous terrain where heavy braking is required, the SES 3.4 features a high-temperature-resistant resin system and ENVE's molded-in brake track technology to ensure rim integrity and precision braking when and where it is needed most.
